Iconic Canadian singer Rita MacNeil has died at the age of 68 from surgery complications. She was from Cape Breton in eastern Canada and had to overcome serious stage fright to launch her career.
She got her start at the world’s fair in Vancouver in 1986 and over the years earned a Juno award as most promising female artist. She also was made a member of the Order of Canada and the recipient of five honorary doctorates. Above all she was loved and admired by many Canadians and people the world over.
