CBC Music.ca is a portal into great Canadian music. You’ll find everything from our domestic radio networks streaming live, articles on various music and now, the “100 Greatest Canadian Albums Ever“, are there on a station for your listening pleasure.
Recently, the people at CBC Music decided to put their heads together, and invite some of their colleagues with musical expertise across the country, to contribute what they thought the best Canadian albums are, and then, to decide the order. No small feat this!
Discussions began. Passionate ones! We have quite the canon of music in many genres. But the top 5 albums as the team concluded, provide an amazing sample of the breadth and depth of Canadian talent.
Neil Young’s 1972 album ‘Harvest’, was chosen number one. In second-place, ‘The Goldberg Variations’ by Glen Gould, Joni Mictchell‘s album ‘Blue’ is third, the album ‘Funeral’ by Arcade Fire was fourth, and in fifth-place, Oscar Peterson‘s ‘Night Train’.
To spend time listening to just these 5 would be a pleasure, and then you can continue on down the list. Mike Miner a senior producer at CBC Music, and one of the organizers of the 100 Greatest Canadian Albums Ever! cautions that the list is not scientific instead it was put together with heart and soul and experience.
