St. Jean Baptiste is the ‘national’ holiday in Quebec, that gives most everyone in the province, a holiday the week before Canada Day, on July 1st.
On June 24th, there are parades and picnics by day, and fireworks at night. This has also been an occasion to raise separatist fervour in the province, but for many it’s a welcome holiday at the beginning of the summer.
In the other French-speaking communities of Canada, the occasion is celebrated, but not with an official holiday.
