Roosh V is the controversial American blogger who is currently on a ‘world tour’ delivering lectures on the state of modern men. On his site he writes: “How we see women is not the same as how our grandfathers see women. They saw them as delicate creatures who could be a source of happiness, love, and most importantly, children, but modern men are stuck with a different breed of women who care less about intimate relations and creating families than pursuing money.”
“modern men are stuck with a different breed of women”
Some of these women, particularly in Montreal, have organized against his arrival in Canada, and are accusing him of hate speech. Fannie Gadoua, an art student at Concordia University, put up a Facebook page in support of Sarah Parker-Toulson‘s petition on Change.org.
ListenFannie Gadoua explains that when she looked into what the American blogger, who claims to teach men how to become “pick-up artists”, was writing, she found an article promoting the legalization of rape on private property. She says he is “promoting the idea that if rape would be legal on private property women wouldn’t enter houses or apartments of men that they don’t want to sleep with because they would be more careful knowing that if they do enter they are susceptible to being raped.”
“He doesn’t want unattractive feminists to come and protest”
Gadoua says the problem with this thinking is that it “essentializes every relationship between men and women as being one that is sexual” and “it also implies that men have inherently the right to women’s bodies for sexual pleasure.”
Gadoua says with the targeting of women in general, and specific on-line rape and death threats against one of the women involved in the petition, the group is demanding that the Canada Border Services Agency prevent Roosh from entering the country. Gadoua says there have been several calls placed to the CBSA, as well as reports to police of the on-line threats, but so far no one has given a definite response.
“Awareness is more important right now than ignorance”
Quebec’s opposition critic for the Status of Women, Carole Poirier has asked the Minister of Justice, Stephanie Vallee, who is also the Minister responsible for the Status of Women, to prohibit Daryush Valizadeh from entering the province. There has been no response.
For his part Roosh V. has said it is all a win-win situation for him, and that in the event of a cancellation, the writing and material he intended to sell, he will simply give away. Gadoua, when asked about all the publicity he is receiving concedes the point, but refers to a comment on the facebook page that said it was better to know that the KKK existed. She says, awareness is more important right now than ignorance.”
It remains to be seen what will transpire. Fannie Gadoua says they have been informed as to the mysterious venue, and intend to gather in protest regardless of the outcome.
