Gun ownership on the rise in Canada

More and more people are buying guns in Canada.

The latest figures are contained in a report by the country’s Commissioner of Firearms.

They show the number of restricted guns–such as certain types of rifles and handguns–has doubled since 2004.

There were 795,854 restricted firearms registered to Canadian owners in 2015, up 9.5 per cent from 2014.

The compares with 384,888 in 2004.

Because Stephen Harper’s Conservative government ended the reporting of non-restricted firearms–such as ordinary rifles and shotguns–in 2011, it is impossible to know exactly how many non-restricted firearms there are in Canada.

In 2011 there were 7.1 million.
