Historic Sami Land Rights Case Underway in Sweden

An historic court case over land rights in northern Sweden gets underway today in the High Court. More than a hundred landowners in Västerbotten county want to stop local reindeer herders from using their land for grazing. The indigenous Sami herders in the area say they have ancestral rights over the land. They won the case in two lower courts – the first every such victory in Swedish history.
